The Urban Bee: Educational Center

This Senior Capstone is focused on how education can serve as an advocacy tool both in increasing awareness and action across a number of areas.

“The Urban Bee” is a multi-purpose educational facility to introduce a bee conservation site that not only nurture the development of honey bees but also serve as an educational and vocational center for bees. Creating “The Urban Bee’’ in an urban landscape will have a positive effect on the urban environment, the people, and bees.

“When the flower blossoms, the bee will come.”

What Uplifts the Center?

Educational Foundation

“Bee Schooled” is the education program that is at center. Having education program of displays, lectures, and demonstrations at the sanctuary will build upon the individual environmental stewardship. Giving people this quality brings a crucial effort in raising awareness about the bee’s importance to us and the environment.

Bee Sanctuary & Garden

The bee sanctuary will raise awareness of the bee ecosystem with an immersive and interpretive experience. Embedding a garden of diverse flora and vegetation will encourage the bees to pollinate more.

Retail & Action

Supporting local honey bee farmers and honey-based product producers the retail space will serve to reinforce actions by the community. This will thus create a support system for the bees as they are central to our economic and societal well being. “Buzz Culture” will be stocked with products made with honey and “Nectar Bee Café” will give visitors the chance to try the locally harvested honey.
